When properly structured, HSA reimbursements and administration costs may generally be treated as business expenses. Employers should confirm their own tax treatment with their accountant.

For Quebec employees

Quebec has different provincial tax treatment. Employer-paid contributions under a group insurance plan, including a private health services plan, may constitute a taxable benefit for Quebec purposes and be reported on the RL-1 slip.

For employees outside Quebec

PHSP benefits are generally not taxable to employees when the plan meets applicable requirements
